The famous hat —
Briny Baird is golf's perennial runner-up, having failed to win any of his 348 tournaments on the PGA Tour. His straw hat can be seen frequently on the circuit. "I wear it purely for sun protection, not for fashion reasons!" he told CNN.
Hitting the target —
Baird celebrates after landing his ball off a hotel roof onto a bullseye at PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres baseball team, during a charity event in 2009.
Lucrative career —
Briny Baird and playing partner John Daly at the 2004 Nissan Open. Daly trails Baird by $3m in the all-time PGA Tour money list despite winning a major.
Lining up a putt —
Baird lines up a putt during the first round of The Masters in 2009, a year that he played in all four major tournaments, although failing to make the cut in any of them.
Enjoying the sunshine —
