Los Angeles may be known predominantly for the film industry but it has a wealth of cultural spaces to explore.
The city is home to several world-class museums, including The Museum of Contemporary Art, pictured.
LA-based artists such as Ed Ruscha have helped put the city on the artworld map and even incorporate the city into their work.
Pictured is a 1962 painting by Ruscha, on view in Paris in 2006.
'Urban Light', 202 cast-iron streetlamps restored by LA artist Chris Burden, in front of the LACMA museum in Los Angeles.
The Watts Towers were built between the 1920s and 50s and are a much-loved example of so-called "vernacular" or folk art.
It is hard, though, to ignore LA's film history; no trip to the city would be complete without a visit to Grauman's Chinese Theater.
Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles is the ideal place to window-shop; the nearby Anderson Court is not only good for shopping but also a shining example of modernist architecture.
The famed Chateau Marmont hotel is a must-stop for weary travelers and wary celebrities alike.
