Repsol Honda's record-breaking rider Marquez claimed his 11th Grand Prix win on Sunday at Silverstone at British leg of the MotoGP season in a scintillating race that saw the Spaniard overtake Movistar Yahama's Jorge Lorenzo three laps from the end.

Speaking after the race, Marquez said: "It was important to win today, after missing out at Brno. I also had a score to settle from last year, when Jorge beat me on the final corner, so I am happy to be back on the top step of the podium!"

Referencing the dramatic dogfight at toward the end of the race, Lorenzo revealed: "I knew that [Marquez] was going to try to overtake me in this corner in first gear on the right, but I didn't let him enter. On the outside I opened the throttle and he touched me. In the next corner he touched me again as he went into the corner and I lost seven tenths of a second."

Valentino Rossi -- who set a new outright record of 246 starts in the premier class of Grand Prix racing -- finished third beating out Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa and Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso.

Tech3 Yamaha's British rider Bradley Smith was forced into the pits after his rear wheel rim broke. He rejoined the race and managed to get within a lap of the pack, to loud cheers from the home crowd.
