British authorities on Thursday morning arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of financing terrorist acts, police said.
Officers from the South East Counter Terrorism Unit made the arrest in Slough, about 20 miles west of central London.
“Officers would like to reassure residents that the police activity is in relation to conflicts overseas and is not linked to any immediate threat to local communities or anywhere else in the UK,” a statement from the terror unit said.
The UK raised its terror threat level from “substantial” to “severe” – the fourth-highest of five levels – in late August in response to ISIS militants’ surge in Iraq and Syria, and their threats against the West. At the time, Home Secretary Theresa May said “that means that a terrorist attack is highly likely, but there is no intelligence to suggest that an attack is imminent.”
