Jubilant Aston Villa fans invaded the pitch to celebrate their team's 2-0 English FA Cup quarterfinal victory over local rivals West Bromwich Albion Saturday.

Two players were sent off in the closely-fought match between the Premier League sides: Argentine midfielder Claudio Yacob for West Brom and then Villa's teenage striker Jack Grealish.

Villa fans flooded on to the pitch before the match was over. Supporters who remained in the stands initially booed those who entered the playing area.

After a brief delay the game was completed, but fans again poured over the hoardings at the sound of the fulltime whistle.

Midfielder Fabian Delph opened the scoring for Villa early in the second half but later spoke to reporters about his shock as fans streamed on to the pitch to mob the players. "It was dangerous. Someone tried to take my boot off. People tried to kiss me and were biting me. It was scary," Delph said. "But I could appreciate the relief the fans are feeling after a result like that."

A sole fan runs on to congratulate Villa striker Scott Sinclair after he made it 2-0 to the home side late in the second period.

More followed soon after as stewards struggled to keep control.

West Brom and Scotland midfielder James Morrison looks on as excitable Aston Villa fans celebrate their sides second goal. West Brom manager Tony Pulis later described the pitch-invading fans as "mindless idiots" in a post-match interview with the BBC.

West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill, who started his career at Villa, received an earful from this celebrating home supporter.

Thousands of Aston Villa fans celebrate on the turf of Villa Park at the fulltime whistle. Their side will now travel to Wembley for the FA Cup semifinals next month.
