Tiger Woods carded a double-bogey seven after a dreadful 105-yard tee shot at the second hole of his third round at the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Having tied for 17th on his return at the Masters last month, before splitting up with skier girlfriend Lindsey Vonn, there was considerable interest in the 14-time major winner's performance at TPC Sawgrass.

He made the halfway cut with a birdie at his final hole in Friday's second round, but was at the tail of the field after carding a three-over-par 75 on Saturday.

Woods also had a seven at the ninth hole, making it the first time he has twice double-bogeyed par-five holes in the same round.

Woods did regain some composure, carding a birdie at the par-five 11th and not dropping a shot for the rest of his round.

Wearing his traditional final-day red shirt, Woods closed with a mixed par-72 featuring a treble-bogey seven and five birdies as he finished tied for 69th.
