Zico is considered one of Brazil's greatest ever players and represented his nation at three World Cups. He moved into management after playing and has taken charge of the likes of Japan and Iraq.

Zico is the third former player to enter the FIFA presidential race this year. Ex-France international David Ginola withdrew in January after failing to receive the backing of five football federations.

Blatter resigned after being re-elected for a fifth term due to the ongoing FIFA corruption scandal. The date for the election of his successor has not yet been officially set.
