Final flourish? —
Bernhard Langer will this week tee off at The Open, an event at which he has twice been runner-up, for what could be the last time.

End of an era? —
He admitted that if it was to be his final flourish at The Open, it would be an emotional and nostalgic experience.

Master of his profession —
Langer's most notable successes have come at the Masters, where he first donned the Green Jacket as champion in 1985.

New beginning —
He said he still felt empty after the win -- but then became a born-again Christian, along with his wife Vikki, and won the Masters again on Easter Sunday 1993.

Keeping faith —
Langer says his religion helped him overcome his career lows of his career, the most notable of which was a missed putt that would have given Europe victory at the 1991 Ryder Cup.

Toast of Europe —
Despite the 1991 blip Langer enjoyed an illustrious Ryder Cup career, including captaining the winning European team in 2004.

Putting it right —
Langer also suffered a bad case of the yips with his putting, which he has tried to overcome through prayer.

Showing the way —
Langer has been a trailblazer for a younger generation of German golfers, among them former world No.1 Martin Kaymer.

Serial winner —
Langer has enjoyed an illustrious career after the pro tour, claiming 25 Champions Tour wins including five senior majors.

Into the sunset? —
Set to turn 58, Langer says: "It will be hard to play that last round when it happens. It could be this year, I don't know. I just have to enjoy it."
