U.S. golfer Zach Johnson celebrates on the way to victory at the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews in Scotland.

Johnson emerged victorious from a three-way playoff with Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa and Australian Marc Leishman after the three men finished level at 15-under par for the tournament.

Here Johnson putts on the 14th green during the final round on The Old Course. The Open carries a $10,000,000 purse.

American Jordan Spieth missed out on the playoff by just one stroke, finishing 14-under-par and missing out on the chance to win his third successive major. Torrential rain disrupted play at the start of the tournament, requiring an extra fifth day of play.

Phil Mickelson finished tied for 20th on seven-under par. The weather-affected championship finished on Monday for only the second time in 155 years.

Irish amateur Paul Dunne -- top of the leaderboard entering the final day before finishing tied for 20th -- plays a shot on the fifth hole during the final round.

Spieth -- who won the U.S. Open and The Masters earlier this year -- confers with caddie Michael Greller on the seventh green.

Adam Scott of Australia finished tied for 10th place. Here he plays an approach on the 14th hole.

Jason Day of Australia -- who fell short to finish 14-under-par for the tournament-- looks on from the fourth fairway.

Padraig Harrington of Ireland at the fifth hole during the final round.
