Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho did a lot of smiling last season and no wonder, since his team won the title. The new Premier League season starts Saturday and Mourinho's men are considered the favorites again.

When Chelsea won the league, it marked the eighth time in the past 12 seasons when a Mourinho team finished first, be it in Portugal (Porto), England, Italy (Inter Milan) or Spain (Real Madrid).

Going forward, Chelsea's creative force was attacking midfielder Eden Hazard, who also scored 14 Premier League goals.

Manchester City, to the surprise of many, have stuck with manager Manuel Pellegrini after City finished a distant second to Chelsea and was crushed in the Champions League by Barcelona.

A positive for City? It still benefits from the services of Sergio Aguero, last season's top scorer.

Can Arsenal become serious contenders? Manager Arsene Wenger thinks so. Wenger, right, clashed with Mourinho as Arsenal won Sunday's Community Shield 1-0.

Alexis Sanchez, middle, was Arsenal's talisman in 2014/2015 after arriving from Barcelona.

So close to winning the league two seasons ago, Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool failed to cope without Luis Suarez, sliding to sixth. Rodgers made plenty more signings in the off-season, landing the likes of Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and James Milner.

Rodgers is without Raheem Sterling, however. Disgruntled with his contract status at Liverpool, the speedy winger pushed for a move and was sold to City for $76 million.

Wayne Rooney's Manchester United has been active in the off-season, too. Out have gone Angel Di Maria and Robin van Persie. Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin are among the new contingent at Old Trafford.

Bournemouth, managed by the widely admired Eddie Howe, will be gracing the Premier League for the first season.
