Escaping ISIS and healing through photography

A UNICEF project is helping Yazidi girls who are living in a refugee camp in Kurdistan, having fled from ISIS, by letting the girls tell their own stories using photography. This photo was taken by 14-year-old Safiya. "I took this photo in the camp," she said. "There is fatigue in her face, her face expressed tiredness."

18-year-old Barfi's photography project focused on traditional Yazidi dress. She took portraits of friends and relatives against colorful backdrops in her camp. This is her sister wearing celebratory clothing.
