Zhang had some luck in the last 16 against 2015 Australian Open semifinalist Madison Keys, prevailing in three sets after the American needed extensive treatment on a leg injury.

Zhang will next play another first-time quarterfinalist in world No. 47 Johanna Konta of Britain, who also caused a big first-round upset by beating seven-time grand slam champion Venus Williams.
