London CNN  —

He’s known for his Head and Shoulders shampoo adverts – so who better than Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart to cast an eye over some legendary soccer hairstyles?

In an exclusive interview on the set of a photoshoot for a magazine, CNN Sport’s Amanda Davies caught up with Hart, who – after he had put a stop to a cheesecake inferno with a fire extinguisher – offered his assessment of styles sported by stars including David Beckham and Carlos Valderrama.

Keeper rates soccer's craziest hairstyles

From the majestic mullets favored by Chris Waddle and Glenn Hoddle in the 1980s to the Rodrigo Palacio rat-tail of today, questionable haircuts have long been part of the landscape of the beautiful game.

Abel Xavier

Soccer has been graced by the adventurous cuts of Abel Xavier – known by some as the “curl up and dye” approach – David Seaman’s shining ponytail and the Romania “bleach boys” squad in the 1998 World Cup.

The bleach blonde Romanians

And from Jason Lee’s “Pineapple Head” to the Bobby Charlton comb-over, footballing ability has not always been matched by hairstyling sensibility.

Former Bulgaria defender Trifon Ivanov even became known as “The Wolfman” because of his wild appearance, while plenty of other hairstyles were simply ineffable.

Taribo West

But with the most impeccable scalp in soccer, who could split hairs more happily than Hart?
