Carlos Alberto Torres, captain of Brazil's 1970 World Cup-winning side, has died aged 72.

The 1970 Brazil team featured the likes of Pele, Jairzinho and Rivellino, and is considered by many to be one of the greatest of all time. In the final against Italy, Carlos Alberto epitomized joga bonito with one of the finest ever World Cup goals, scoring with the outside of his right boot to finish a flowing move.

After a long club career in Brazil's domestic league -- spanning stints with Fluminese, Santos, and Flamengo -- Alberto helped popularize soccer in the US, joining New York Cosmos in 1982.
