Genesis Essentia concept: This all-electric Grand Touring car is powered by a battery pack running down the center of the car. That allows the occupants to sit low to the ground, in true sports-car style, because the batteries aren't in the floor. Genesis is the luxury division of Hyundai, and this car provided the opportunity for designers to explore themes for future Genesis products.

Kia K900: When most people think of the South Korean car brand Kia, "value" might be what comes to mind but certainly not "luxury." The K900 promises both. It offers a richly appointed interior inside a car the size of a Mercedes S-class. But it's priced like an E-class. Kia executives also promise that this new, redesigned K900 will be a huge improvement over the current model.

Lincoln Aviator: Technically it's only a concept, but Lincoln executives say it's very close to the final production version of the Aviator. Ford's luxury brand has been on an impressive turnaround in recent years, and the Aviator will cap it off. The interior is designed to evoke a sense of serenity. An available plug-in hybrid system will be engineered to supply smooth, ample power, according to Lincoln.

Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak concept: This pickup is based on the Volkswagen Atlas crossover SUV. This means it would be relatively easy to produce it on the same assembly line in Chattanooga, Tennessee. What Volkswagen needs to figure out is whether there's enough of a market in the United States for another crossover-based pickup. The vast majority of trucks sold in America have more rugged engineering like that of the Ford F-150 or Chevrolet Silverado.

Cadillac XT4: Cadillac sales are suffering badly from a lack of crossover SUV models, the type of vehicle buyers are increasingly turning to. The XT4, a compact crossover, adds a second to the Cadillac lineup. With parent company General Motors now comfortably profitable, expect to see many more new models coming from the brand.

Jaguar F-Pace SVR: The New York Auto Show featured high-performance versions of two genuinely fun-to-drive SUVs: the Jaguar F-Pace and the the Maserati Levante. The 542-horsepower Jaguar F-Pace SVR was created by Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations division. With its big supercharged V8, it can rush from zero to 60 mph in just over four seconds.

Maserati Levante Trofeo: The Maserati Levante is a blast to drive even in its regular V6-powered version. The Levante Trofeo has a 590-horsepower V8 built, like all Maserati engines, by Ferrari. It can race from zero to 60 in just 3.7 seconds, according to Maserati. Drivers can select a "Corsa" driving mode in which the suspension stiffens and lowers the SUV's body to the ground for better cornering.

Porsche 911 GT3 with Weissach package: The GT3 is the most powerful street-drivable non-turbocharged 911 you can buy. It's powered by a 520-horsepower six-cylinder engine. The Weissach package, named for the town that's home to Porsche's research and development center, reduces the GT3's weight. For instance, the carbon-fiber roof weighs 3 pounds less than the standard aluminum one, and carbon-fiber suspension parts save another 12 pounds.
