The Gonet Monofoil was developed in secret in Switzerland. The project took two years, with testing on Lake Lucerne.

The revolutionary monohull flies out of the water on hydrofoils, similar to the concept that will be used in the 36th America's Cup in New Zealand in 2021.

The yacht is eight meters long and weighs 850 kilograms with a crew of four. It can reach speeds of 25 knots (50km/h).

The Monofoil was designed by Eric Monnin with a team that includes his brother Jean-Claude, a foil expert who has worked for America's Cup outfit Emirates Team New Zealand.

"For a long time, I've been watching the extraordinary performance of foiling sailing boats...but it is still an evolving area, and I've always found that there is something missing," said Eric Monnin.

The Monofoil will be raced on Lake Geneva this summer -- America's Cup designers will be watching closely.
