Andre Brasilier, 88, is a world-renowned French painter. Born into a family of artists, Brasilier was inspired by the natural beauty that surrounde him when he grew up.

Growing up in war-time France, the young artist found inspiration in the horses that plowed the fields outside his family's countryside manor. The passion stuck and Brasilier now paints horses in various different settings.

Brasilier is a Christian and faith influences his works. He is fascinated by what horses represent spiritually.

The artist is continually inspired by how the animal has evolved alongside mankind and he can see beauty in everything they do.

Brasilier and his wife, Chantal, own their own horse in France. "Foufou" serves as constant inspiration and the artist credits the animal with giving him youthful "energy."

The Grand Prix de Rome winner believes the animals are "indistinguishable" from nature and that they're always found in "a beautiful environment."

The Frenchman is the focus of a new exhibition at the Opera Gallery, London, where some of his recent work is displayed.
