Despite joining Borussia Dortmund's youth system, Reus was released in 2006 and joined Rot-Weiss Ahlen, in the fourth tier of German football.

Impressive performances saw the forward move back to the Bundesliga with Borussia M?nchengladbach. Reus scored 41 times in 109 appearances.

He quickly developed into one of the finest attacking players in Germany and moved back to Dortmund in 2012. He did so in order to play regular Champions League football.

It was almost the perfect return. Reus led his side to the final of the Champions League but his side was beaten 2-1 by bitter rivals Bayern Munich.

Reus had been an important part of Germany's qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup. However, after sustaining an ankle injury just weeks before the start of the tournament, Reus was forced to pull out of the squad. Germany would go on to become world champions without him.

After overcoming major setbacks and another eight-month spell out with injury, Reus has started the new season in electric form. He has scored 12 times in 20 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.
