For the first time since 1980, the Georgia Bulldogs are college football's national champions.

Georgia defeated Alabama 33-18 in Monday night's title game in Indianapolis, avenging its loss in this same game four years ago. The Bulldogs defense limited Alabama's explosive offense for much of the night, and quarterback Stetson Bennett threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to lead Georgia to victory.

Alabama had the ball late in the game down 26-18, but Georgia defensive back Kelee Ringo intercepted Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and returned it for a touchdown to seal the victory.

With the win, the Bulldogs (14-1) also avenged its loss in the Southeastern Conference title game last month.

Alabama (13-2) came into the game as the defending national champion and the dominant program of the last decade. The Crimson Tide has won six national titles under head coach Nick Saban, and this was its sixth title game in seven years.
