Hi, from CNN this is Madeleine Thompson with five things you need to know for Monday, October 7th. Okay, Hurricane Milton is the strongest storm to occur anywhere on the planet this year. It's forecast to make landfall tomorrow, and authorities up and down Florida's Gulf Coast are urging residents to evacuate immediately. Here's State Senator Jim Boyd.

Get out. If you're in evacuation zone, don't take chances.

'Manatee County is director of public safety, said the storm has a potential surge of 8 to 12ft along coastal areas of the county. Tampa's airport will close tomorrow and Orlando's Wednesday morning, according to officials. Miami-Dade County isn't currently in the direct path of the storm, but its mayor has declared a state of emergency. Officials there are already giving out sandbags and asking some residents to evacuate. For the latest on Hurricane Milton, go to cnn.com.

'Georgia's Supreme Court has reinstated a law that banned abortions beyond about six weeks of pregnancy while it considers the state's appeal. That's very early -- before many women even know they're pregnant. Last week, a judge ruled that the ban violates the state's privacy rights, including the right to make personal health care decisions. Georgia was one of the Republican controlled states that passed restrictive abortion laws before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in 2022. The measure was signed into law in 2019, but didn't take effect until SCOTUS ended the National Right to an abortion.

A new report from the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders finds at least 128 journalists have been killed since the beginning of Israel's war on Hamas. Nearly all have been Palestinian media workers in Gaza killed as a result of Israeli airstrikes. The Israeli military has repeatedly said it doesn't intentionally target journalists, but that it can't guarantee the safety of reporters in a, quote, active military zone. Reporters embedding with the Israeli military aren't allowed to speak to Palestinians, and their raw footage is subject to Israeli military censorship. The Union of Journalists in Israel has also noted at least 40 physical attacks on Israeli journalists in the past year. In a speech marking the anniversary of Hamas's October 7th attacks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Israel will, quote, continue to fight.

New polling data hints at alarm bells for Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign. It comes from The Breakthrough, a project from CNN and several partners that each week asks a thousand Americans to share what they've seen, read or heard about major presidential candidates in their own words. Jennifer Agiesta is CNN's director of Polling and Election Analytics.

Hi, Madeleine. This week's breakthrough data finds the Harris campaign's events focused on the economy and immigration captured more attention than other policy focused events have. But at the same time, warning signs have emerged for Harris's campaign over the last few weeks. Words like lie and liar have ranked near the top, among words Americans use to describe what they're hearing about her. That's a notable increase compared with survey results from earlier in the campaign. At the same time, lie has been a consistent theme for Trump throughout the campaign and the tone of the words Americans use to describe what they've heard about Trump remains more negative than it is when they're describing what they heard about Harris.

A new analysis published in the journal Nature Aging says most of today's children are unlikely to live to 100 years old. Researchers studied lifespan data from Australia, France, Hong Kong, the U.S., among many others. They found female children born in those places in 2019 had a 5.1% chance of reaching 100, compared to 1.8% of males. To be clear, the researchers say life expectancy is still increasing, but it's doing so at a much slower pace than in previous decades. They say aging is immutable and progress against major diseases will have a diminishing effect on longevity. That's a wrap. We'll be back tomorrow at 6 p.m. Eastern.
