Hey, from CNN I'm Ifeoma Dike with the five things you need to know for Wednesday, October 9th. Hurricane Milton is now barreling toward Florida as a Category three storm. The National Hurricane Center says Milton could make landfall as early as 11 p.m. Eastern tonight near or just south of Sarasota. The NHC says life threatening storm surge, damaging winds and heavy rain that can cause flooding are expected across parts of central and southwestern Florida. The storm has also spawned a tornado outbreak. 90 tornado warnings have been issued, according to the National Weather Service. The most in a day on record in the state. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says more than 30,000 Floridians are in shelters. Here's CNN meteorologist Angela Fritz.

Yes, Ifeoma We have been tracking Milton very closely and it has expanded greatly in size over the past day. You may have seen that the maximum wind speeds decreased. All of that energy is getting spread out into a big monster storm that is going to make landfall on the Gulf Coast of Florida as a major hurricane. We already saw impacts starting today, tornadoes, gusting winds and storm surge. And now the National Weather Service has said the time to evacuate is over. Take shelter.

Hurricane relief is sparking a political fight over misinformation. Former President Donald Trump and his allies have falsely claimed that the Biden administration has redirected disaster funds to house migrants. Here's Vice President Kamala Harris on CNN today in response to comments suggesting that federal assistance has run out.

'It is dangerous. It is- it is unconscionable, frankly, that anyone who would consider themselves a leader would mislead desperate people to the point that those desperate people would not receive the aid to which they are entitled. And that's why I call it dangerous.

Harris is calling on Congress to pass more disaster aid when they return next month. FEMA has insisted that it has the resources to respond to Hurricane Milton.

Former President Trump has spent the day in Pennsylvania, a crucial step on the pathway to 270 electoral votes this November. It's the biggest battleground prize with 19 electoral votes and has seen an outsized share of candidate visits and campaign resources. A new Quinnipiac University poll finds Vice President Harris holding a slight edge over Trump there with 49% to his 46. But in a speech in Scranton, Trump said he's not ruling out his home state. The typically blue New York.

'We just rented Madison Square Garden. We're going to make a play- we're going to make a play for New York. Hasn't been done in a long time. It hasn't been done in many decades. But we're going to make how could New York be run worse than it is, right?

Meanwhile, two sources told CNN Harris has raised $1 billion since entering the presidential race in July. Her campaign declined to comment on the milestone.

A Turkish Airlines jetliner made an emergency landing in New York today after the captain died on board. That's according to one airline official who said the flight was on its way from Seattle to Istanbul. A spokesperson for the airline said medical intervention failed to revive the captain and the copilot decided to make an emergency landing. But the captain died before the plane landed. They added The 59 year old pilot had worked at Turkish Airlines since 2007, and a routine health check in March showed no health problems that would have prevented him from working. Coming up, Mountain Dew gets a makeover.

Hey, welcome back. PepsiCo's Mountain Dew has unveiled a new logo and packaging design. It drops the sharply angular fonts and abbreviated title for imagery that evokes the drinks rustic roots. The brand hopes to attract customers amid slowing demand, and North America drinkers are shifting their preferences away from sugary sodas and toward sparkling waters, hydration, beverages and lower calorie alternatives. Consumers will start seeing the new look on shelves next May. That's all for now. We're back at 6 a.m. Eastern.
