So much so that the Japanese developer hired Ryota Suzuki of Devil May Cry 4 and 5 fame to serve as the combat director. In Final Fantasy XVI, the continents of Valisthea are governed by six nations, each wielding magical Crystals and human hosts called Dominants for their powerful Eikons. As a magical famine, the Blight, begins to afflict the land, tensions among these nations intensify. Amidst this chaos, Clive Rosfield, protector of his brother Joshua, becomes embroiled in the conflict, uncovering hidden forces driving the war. FFXVI sets another visual standard for the series, featuring a beautiful soundtrack and some of the most epic battles seen in the series.

Sifu puts players in the role of an unnamed fighter looking to avenge the death of their father. A unique twist on developer Slocap’s debut martial arts game Absolver, Sifu blends arcade-like action brawling with roguelike sensibilities. Players have to master the game’s complex fighting system where death means resurrection — with the twist that you’ll age several years ahead each time. Growing stronger yet weaker in health with each death, players are limited in the number of deaths before finishing the game.

There’s a sense of wonder, dread and accomplishment as each death serves as a lesson on how to survive everything Atrops throws at the player.
