Galaxy S23 Ultra-7

Samsung’s first Unpacked event of the year is tomorrow (Jan. 17). We expect Samsung to unveil its latest flagship smartphones, so anyone who’s been waiting for the Galaxy S24 should listen up — especially since you’ve only got one day left to save $50 on the phone before preorders go live.

If you want to buffer the impact of Samsung’s latest on your wallet, you can save $50 by putting a reservation down now. It’s totally free and nonbinding — but time is running out.

The first Samsung Unpacked of 2024 will take place at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. We will have all the details about the new phones once they’re revealed, but anyone looking to upgrade in the immediate future would be well served by signing up for a reservation at Samsung’s website. There’s no commitment — all you need to do is provide your name and email address — and it helps you jump to the front of the line once the devices are available for preorder.

Even though Samsung didn’t make an announcement as to the Galaxy devices it will be revealing at Unpacked, the seasonality gives us a strong idea to expect the latest iteration of its flagship phones. That would include the vanilla Galaxy S24, the slightly larger S24+ and the S Pen-equipped S24 Ultra. Samsung will likely debut devices other than phones, as we met its Galaxy Book 3 laptops last winter and its Galaxy Watch 6 series last summer.

We’ve heard whispers that the S24 Ultra may drop its aluminum frame for titanium (just like the iPhone 15 Pro). That should enable increased durability and a lighter weight. This should only improve the Galaxy S23, our pick for the top Android phone. Samsung will also jazz up the proceedings with its generative AI, as it’s teasing something called Galaxy AI in its promotional material.

An Instagram ad from @samsungmobileusa just teased more about that technology, by declaring “Zoom with Galaxy AI is coming.” The ad includes a trio of circular images referencing the three rear cameras on the back of their phone, with increasingly tighter zoom. The first image is of a skyline with a hot-air balloon in the distance, and the third shot shows details of the balloon’s basket. See it for yourself:

Want to watch Samsung reveal its latest handsets at Galaxy Unpacked? Tune in to Samsung’s YouTube or website for a livestream tomorrow at 1 p.m. EST. We’ll have our eyes glued to the proceedings and provide our coverage of the new devices when they drop. And since none of the S24 phones will likely come cheap, remember to sign up for a reservation to shave off some bucks.
