There might not be a proper E3 expo this year, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be getting a ton of new video game announcements to get excited about over the next year and beyond. Today’s Summer Game Fest livestream will kick off what should be a full week of major gaming events, where we’ll see world premieres, deeper dives on announced titles and hopefully no shortage of cool surprises.
Game Fest founder Geoff Keighley already confirmed that we’ll be getting a closer look at hotly anticipated titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Street Fighter 6, Gotham Knights and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Whether you game on a PS5, Xbox Series X, gaming PC or Nintendo Switch, you’ll likely have no shortage of new software to look forward to.
The action kicks off at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET, and you can catch the livestream right here. We’ll also be live-blogging all of the big news as it happens, so be sure to keep refreshing this page for all the latest updates — as well as our personal impressions on the best games to come out of the show.
The biggest games shown at Summer Game Fest — and where to pre-order them
Summer Game Fest is officially in the books, giving us nearly two hours worth of deep-dive trailers and world premieres of exciting video games big and small. There was a big emphasis on sci-fi horror this year with titles like The Callisto Protocol and Aliens: Dark Descent, which were balanced out by the lighthearted fun of games like TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and Goat Simulator 3. We also got no short of heavy hitting reveals, with new content shown for big titles like Street Fighter 6, Modern Warfare II and Marvel: Midnight Suns as well as the premiere of The Last of Us Part 1, a full remake of Sony’s beloved action game.

Live updates
Latest updates up top; refresh to stay up to date
3:54 pm: And that’s a wrap! My hands are tired and I’m excited to play some video games. Be sure to stick around as we round up our favorites from the show, as well as handy links on where to buy them.
3:42 pm: The Last of Us Part 1 may have leaked a little early, but Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann has taken the stage to officially introduce what’s next for Sony’s beloved triple-A action franchise. The team is working on a standalone multiplayer game building off of The Last of Us Part 2, complete with its own narrative and cast of characters.
Druckmann also gave a quick update on The Last of Us TV show coming to HBO, which is wrapping up filming as we speak. We got a new still of Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie) set in one of the game’s iconic locations. Druckmann says the show will be the “most authentic video game adaptation” ever made. Also, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, the beloved voices of Joel and Ellie in the game, will have their own special roles in the show.
But while those two projects are a ways out, there’s some new Last of Us content coming this year: The Last of Us Part 1. This is a full remake of the original 2013 title built specifically for PS5 and PC, with stunning new visuals that bring it up to speed with 2020’s The Last of Us Part 2. It’s coming to PS5 on September 2, with a PC version set to release sometime after. Expect upgrades top to bottom, from animations to the ways enemies interact during combat. Also, Druckmann hinted that he has a new project in the works – please let it be a new Jak and Daxter.
3:39 pm: Get your batsuit on - it’s time for Gotham Knights! A co-op action game set in a world where Batman is dead, Knights has you play as Batgirl, Red Hood, Robin and Nightwing as you uncover the truth behind Bruce Wayne’s murder. Today’s trailer focuses on Nightwing (my personal favorite of the bunch). Dick Grayson looks especially awesome in the game’s customzable gear (we see him rocking a ninja suit and ponytail at one point), and the combat reminds me of the excellent Batman: Arkham games in all the right ways.
3:36 pm: Fresh off of last year’s The Medium, Bloober Team is back with a new psychological horror game. Layers of Fears continues the popular Layers of Fear franchise, thrusting you into a trippy and spooky first-person adventure that I’m getting anxious just looking at this short clip of. Can’t wait to play it when it comes early next year.
3:34 pm: This one’s for the real nerds. Warhammer 40,000 Darktide is a first-person shooter inspired by the tabletop fantasy game, and it looks satisfyingly gruesome. There are lots of creatively grisly weapons and gadgets on hand, and mowing down hordes of enemy orcs looks like a whole lot of fun. Look for it on September 13.
3:32 pm: Saints Row: Boss Factory lets you bring your own custom characters into Volition’s irreverent open world. It all looks like a more colorful, less serious Grand Theft Auto, with no shortage of ways to express yourself. You can download the character creator now, with the new game set to launch later this year.
3:29 pm: Nightingale is a first-person fantasy game that has you take on mysterious threats in a forest using a mix of guns and your trusty axe-pick. It’s card-based combat system looks interesting, and its cartoony setting is a nice breath of fresh air from the normally grim games in the genre.
3:27 pm: The Quarry is the latest cinematic, choose-your-own-adventure horror game from the folks behind Until Dawn, and we’re getting a new launch trailer ahead of its June 10 release. The game looks like the perfect mix of campy and spooky – imagine watching Scream or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but you and your friends decide what happens.
3:24 pm: Time for another World Premiere! Metal: Hellsinger is a unique music-shooter that challenges you to slay demons to the beat of heavy metal music. It features some big names too, with vocal tracks from the likes of Matthew Heafy from Trivium and Serj Tankian from System of a Down. This one’s high on my personal wishlist. There’s a free demo you can play now on Xbox, PC and PlayStation.
3:23 pm: Oh hey, an ad for Samsung Gaming Hub! You can check out our hands-on impressions of the new hub – and Xbox game streaming directly on a TV – right here.
3:18 pm: One Piece Odyssey is a role-playing game based on the popular anime. I’m not big on this show – or the genre – but its art style sure looks interesting. It’s coming sometime this year. And if that’s not enough stylish anime for you, Soul Hackers 2 is coming later this year.
3:16 pm: We got a cinematic trailer for Super People, one of the many online shooters coming this year. Meh. Sega has an expansion coming for historical strategy game Humankind, which will focus on Latin America. The game is also coming to consoles – and Xbox Game Pass.
3:14 pm: If you have fond memories of playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game at your local arcade, get excited. TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, an homage to those 16-bit beat-em-up classics, is almost here, and it’s bringing beloved series anti-hero Casey Jones with it. Shredder’s Revenge’s over-the-top brawling – which lets up to 6 players play online – looks like nostalgia perfected, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it come June 16.
3:10 pm: Another space game, but this one’s more anime than brooding sci-fi. Made by the folks behind the wildly popular Genshin Impact, Honkai Starrail is a gorgeous looking role-playing game with some cool-looking characters and a really vibrant color palette. No word on a release date, but it’s “coming soon.” The same developer is working on Zenless Zone Zero, which is an open world action game with some stylish combat that I’m eager to get my hands on.
3:07 pm: Popular online shooter Warframe continues to evolve after being out for nearly a decade, and it’s getting some big new updates this year. We just got a new look at The Duviri Paradox, which is a huge upcoming expansion that will add a big open world for players to explore. You’ll see more at Digital Extremes’ TennoCon next month.
3:05 pm: A game made by a single person in Poland, Midnight Fight Express is an over-the-top action game that should appeal to fans of games like Hotline Miami. It’s coming on August 23.
3:03 pm: Neon White is a game that lets you play as an “assassin from hell who slays demons for a chance to get into heaven.” Despite the grim premise, it’s stylish and colorful, with fast, arcadey first-person run-and-gun gameplay and some strong anime-inspired aesthetics. It’s coming June 16 for Nintendo Switch and PC. Color me intrigued.
3:00 pm: It feels like it’s been decades in the making, but Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is finally coming on June 30th. An expansion to the beloved 2D platformer known for its breathtaking hand-drawn animation (and brutal difficulty), The Delicious Last Course introduces a new playable character in Ms. Chalice and a brand new island to explore. We got a quick new look at gameplay, which shows Chalice taking on a big, morphing snowflake monster in some sort of ice palace. There’s nothing that quite looks or plays like Cuphead, and I personally can’t wait to get my hands on this one.
2:57 pm: Time for a new look at Marvel: Midnight Suns! The comic-inspired tactics game is getting some new faces, with beloved web slingers Spider-Man and Venom joining the likes of Wolverine, Blade and Ghost Rider. Spidey’s new suit looks pretty snazzy, too. Oh, and there’s a new bad guy that looks a whole lot like a demonic Hulk.
2:55 pm: The sequel you’ve all been waiting for is here: Goat Simulator 3! The beloved physics-based, destroy-things-as-a-goat game is back, and it’s dropping later this year on the Epic Games Store.
2:53 pm: American Arcadia is another independent standout, featuring a man escaping what looks like a 24/7 reality show. The art looks beautiful, and the voice acting sounds strong.
2:51 pm: Now this is a nice change of pace. Highwater is a quirky indie adventure game with a striking cel-shaded art style that sees its characters boating around a dystopian sunken city. Hard to get a good read on the gameplay, but I’m happy to not see yet another brooding action title.
2:46 pm: Stormgate is a dark fantasy real-time strategy game with shields, guns, mechanical battle suits and giant gargoyles. It’s being developed by many of the leads behind the beloved StarCraft series, so strategy junkies will want to take note. The developers want to make the genre as accessible and social as possible, with a variety of online modes for both cooperative and competitive play.
2:45 pm: Oh hey, it’s Fall Guys! The popular online party game is finally becoming free to play on June 21st, and we got a live-action trailer full of influencers to reveal the news.
2:42 pm: We got a fresh look at Outsiders: Worldslayer, the sequel/expansion to the looter-shooter that lets you wield big guns and cool powers. It continues to look a whole lot like Destiny. Players bounced off the original pretty fast, so I’m curious what the hype around this one will be like.
2:38 pm: Oh hey, it’s Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson calling in from the gym! He’s here to hawk his ZOA energy drink (the phrase “big drink energy” was spoken), as well as talk about his recent appearance in Fortnite as “The Foundation” and show a trailer for his upcoming DC comics film Black Adam. This felt like a glorified ad, but I’ll never say no to a little Rock cameo.
2:36 pm: We’re looking at… another space horror game? This one’s called Routine, and it has a slightly weirder, more cyberpunk aesthetic than we’ve seen from the others. It’s scored by Mick Gordon (Doom, Killer Instinct), which alone has me intrigued.
2:31 pm: Another world premiere, kicking off with the iconic voice of video game actor Troy Baker. One of many sci-fi horror games we’re seeing today, Fort Solis will star Baker and Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2) as they uncover the mystery behind what looks like a haunted space station. We only saw a tiny cinematic tease of the game, but its top-tier cast has us intrigued. Baker says he was pitched on the game as being “Dead Space meets Duncan Jones’ Moon.”
2:29 pm: Now this looks cool. Witchfire is a frenetic-looking first-person-shooter that lets you rapidly dodge and slide around a dystopian medieval world while unleashing all kinds of cool supernatural powers. Its mix of movement and magic kind of makes it look like Destiny on steroids. I can’t wait to play it.
2:27 pm: Flashback 2, a sequel to the PC gaming classic, is coming this Winter. I wasn’t quite around for that one, but old-school computer gamers should be stoked.
2:14 pm: Call of Duty time! Modern Warfare II continues the reboot of Activision’s most beloved shooter series, and we’re getting our first look at gameplay from the single-player campaign. It’s as smooth and cinematic as you’d expect from a modern Call of Duty game, and series staples like Captain John Price and John ‘Soap’ McTavish are back in action. We watched the crew toss molotov cocktails, blow up explosive barrels and race through a sinking ship to stop a nuclear bomb. In other words, if you like Call of Duty’s over-the-top Hollywood ridiculousness, you’re probably going to have a good time with this game when it drops on October 28.
Infinity Ward and Activision took the stage to talk about some of the big new features to look out for, including dynamic water and cover systems that will challenge you to stay on your toes. And if you’re still playing the popular battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone, you can expect plenty of new content to arrive alongside the new Modern Warfare game.
2:07 pm: Up next is our first look at live gameplay from The Callisto Protocol, another moody horror-action game from the creator of EA’s beloved Dead Space. The action looks incredibly visceral and immersive, with plenty of jump scares and no shortage of gore to spare. Fans of Dead Space will be happy to know that The Callisto Protocol seems to have a similar mix of third-person shooting and melee combat, complete with the same dismemberment system that lets you strategically and creatively take down the undead. Can’t wait to play this one with the lights off.
2:04 pm: Time for our first world premiere. Aliens: Dark Descent is an intense-looking horror shooter that looks to have you and squad battle the iconic intergalactic monsters from the films. We only got a cinematic trailer with a few brief seconds of gameplay footage, but it looks like we may be getting an XCOM-style, top-down strategy title.
2:00 pm: And we’re kicking things off with my personal most anticipated game: Street Fighter 6! We just got our first official gameplay footage of the upcoming fighting game, which looks like a huge leap over its predecessor in terms of style and fidelity. And series mainstay Guile is officially back – this time with some sweet new facial hair.
12:12 pm: Looks like some big news got out a little early. The Last of Us Part 1, a PS5 remake of Sony’s beloved cinematic action game, is coming out this September. There’s also a PC version in the works.
12:03 pm: And here’s our first look at the set.
11:08 am: Geoff Keighley has revealed the first batch of games to expect for the big show today, which includes heavy hitters like Street Fighter 6 and the long-anticipated remake of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
