What we like

One of the best things about 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty is its stand-alone package covering kitchen appliances. Kitchen appliances are some of the costliest to repair, but only a few home warranty companies offer targeted kitchen coverage. We also like that the company has an impressive 97.5% claims paid rate and provides 24/7 claims processing and online quotes.

What we don’t like

The company’s service fees range from $65 to $100, depending on your plan. The fees aren’t terribly expensive but rank above the average industry range of $75 to $85. Some 2-10 Home Warranty customers say the company could have more responsive customer service.

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty pros and cons

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty is one of the only companies we’ve reviewed that offers a stand-alone kitchen appliance coverage plan. The plan covers only kitchen appliances but is more affordable than 2-10’s more comprehensive plans. It suits homeowners who don’t want overage for their entire home.

The company also offers better customization options than most home warranty providers. You can upgrade specific parts of your coverage, such as increasing your financial caps for appliances and HVAC systems. In addition, you can choose individual add-on coverages for particular items, such as a washer and dryer or a garage door opener. This flexibility can help you build a policy you prefer at a price you like.

Customer service is one area where 2-10 could improve. One 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty reviewer mentioned it took over a month to hear back from the company after a contractor determined the reviewer needed a new heat pump. In addition, 2-10 doesn’t have a live chat on its website. Other competitors have this, putting 2-10 at a disadvantage for helping customers.

The company’s plans are pricier than some competitors, especially when you factor in service fees. Plan costs range from $35 to $69 per month, but they can be cheaper with discounts. High-end plans are more expensive than what you’d get from Choice Home Warranty, for example, which costs only $55 a month. There are ways to reduce your monthly payments by choosing annual billing, but you’ll still pay more than you would with other providers.

Pros

  • Affordable kitchen appliance plan
  • Flexible add-ons
  • Plenty of discounts
  • High 97.5% claims paid rate

Cons

  • Service fees can be higher than average
  • Mixed customer reviews
  • Plans get expensive with add-ons

How much does 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty cost?

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty has three plans: Simply Kitchen plan, Complete Home plan, and Pinnacle Home plan. The cost of each home warranty plan depends on how you want to be billed and what service fee tier you choose. The table below shows the price of each plan with no discounts applied. You can select a service fee level to increase or decrease your plan’s monthly cost, so we’ll include prices for all service fees and plans so that you can see how the service fees affect your monthly payment

  • $85 service fee: The default fee, with costs listed in the table above
  • $100 service fee: Decreases your plan’s cost by $3 per month

pro tip

  • Which service fee works best for you depends on how often you expect to file a claim. If you expect many claims, choose the $65 service fee option because you’ll likely save money overall by paying less for each service visit. If you don’t think you’ll need to file many claims, the $100 is better since you’ll save $3 monthly.

2-10 also offers many optional add-ons. Each ranges from $3 to $30 per month, depending on the item. We’ll cover add-ons in more detail later.

Savings and discounts

2-10 offers several different payment options and discounts. You can get a $5 per month discount for signing up for auto-renewal and annual billing. The annual billing option doesn’t save you money per se, but it avoids incurring the additional 9.5% processing fee 2-10 charges for monthly billing.

As of this writing, 2-10 offers free washer and dryer coverage for customers who choose the Pinnacle Home plan. The usual cost for washer and dryer coverage is $6 per month. The company doesn’t indicate whether this is an ongoing or short-term promotion.

What services does 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty offer?

The company offers three main plans: Simply Kitchen, Complete Home and Pinnacle Home. The Simply Kitchen plan covers kitchen appliances only and is half the price of the other plans.

The Complete Home plan protects most major home systems and appliances. Still, it doesn’t cover niche items like bathroom fixtures, certain types of plumbing systems, burglar alarms and other similar components of larger systems. If you want more comprehensive coverage, you should choose the Pinnacle Home plan, which covers everything that the other two plans cover, along with the smaller items that are excluded by the Complete Home plan.

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty plans come with standard exclusions for preexisting conditions. The company also imposes a 30-day waiting period before any coverage kicks in, a standard practice in the home warranty industry. Unless you purchased your home warranty as part of a real estate transaction, 2-10 won’t reimburse you for any issues that arise during the first 30 days of your coverage. The delay protects the company from being tricked into covering items that were already damaged before the customer signed up.

The company’s coverage limits are slightly lower than average, sitting around $2,000 for most items. Companies like American Home Shield cover an average of $3,000 or more per item. The following table compares 2-10’s coverage limits to the limits imposed by other popular home warranty providers.

2-10’s slightly lower coverage limits — especially for HVAC systems — means that it might not be the best home warranty provider for you if you have older appliances and home systems that might need total replacement in the near future.

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty add-ons and optional features

One strength of 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty is its broad selection of optional protections. Here is a list of all of the additional coverage options you can add to your main plan:

  • Additional pool: $15 per month
  • Additional refrigerator: $5 per month
  • Built-in wine cooler: $4 per month
  • Extended pipe leak: $5 per month
  • Freestanding freezer: $4 per month
  • Freshwater pool: $18 per month
  • Garage door opener: $3 per month
  • HVAC surplus (extra system): $10 per month
  • Pre-season HVAC tune-up: $8 per month
  • Roof leak coverage: $8 per month
  • Saltwater pool: $30 per month
  • Second additional refrigerator: $8 per month
  • Second built-in wine cooler: $7 per month
  • Second freestanding freezer: $7 per month
  • Second wet bar refrigerator: $7 per month
  • Septic system: $4 per month
  • Water softener: $8 per month
  • Well pump: $6 per month
  • Wet bar refrigerator: $4 per month

The company also offers a Luxury Package add-on that raises your separate coverage limits to $5,000 for your plumbing, electrical, HVAC and appliances. It costs $6 per month, which is a bargain, given how much it increases your coverage caps.

What does 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty not cover?

The company’s plans do not cover garbage disposal coverage. Many home warranty companies offer garbage disposal as an add-on, even if they don’t provide it as part of a policy. Otherwise, 2-10 has the following exclusions:

  • Central vacuum systems
  • Coal or wood-burning equipment
  • Drain line stoppages that can’t be cleared with a standard sewer cable
  • Duplicate appliances (unless you buy them as an add-on)
  • Electronic energy management systems
  • Garage doors
  • Mini-split systems
  • Water filters

Consult your contract before you sign it to make sure there aren’t any surprising exclusions. Home warranty companies occasionally change their plans, and your contract’s terms may differ based on your chosen plan.

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty customer experience

We called the customer service line for 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty to gauge the response time and professionalism of the call center. After a short automated message and choosing to sign up as a new customer, we were connected with a friendly and helpful customer service representative after just three rings. We called again on another day and had a similar experience. At the very least, the customer service reps are friendly and professional to new customers.

210 Home Buyers Warranty reviews are mixed. The company has:

  • 1.27 rating out of 5 on the BBB
  • 2.1 rating out of 5 on Trustpilot
  • 1.1 out of 5 rating on Yelp

While those scores aren’t superior, they’re not unusual for a home warranty company. For example, competitor American Residential Warranty has a rating of 2.21. Common customer complaints aimed at 2-10 include long waits for claims processing and unresponsive customer service.

Here are two 2-10 Home Warranty reviews to give you an idea of what you’ll be working with:

The fine print: Terms and conditions you should know

It’s worth reiterating the importance of reviewing your contract before you sign up for a home warranty. Your terms may differ from the sample contract 2-10 published on its website. 2-10 Home Warranty’s coverage stipulations are common in the home warranty industry, but they can be a source of frustration for customers who don’t review their contracts carefully.

2-10 Home Warranty has a $25,000 aggregate coverage limit, higher than many competitors. Also, there is a 9.5% processing fee for choosing monthly billing, a structured fee that’s easy to miss in the agreement. You can avoid this fee altogether if you choose annual billing.

2-10 Home Buyers Warranty vs. competitors

2-10 is one of the only companies we’ve reviewed that offers exclusive coverage for kitchen appliances. This is a valuable option and something worth considering if most of your expensive appliances are in your kitchen.

The company’s service fee can be on the high side if you choose the $100 option to reduce your plan’s monthly cost. For comparison, American Home Shield charges between $100 and $125 per service visit but Select Home Warranty charges as low as $75.

2-10 offers more add-on coverage than most home warranty companies. While that’s great for customizing your plan, it also means that you need to account for any add-ons you want before comparing 2-10’s prices with its competitor’s prices.
