Aptive Pest Control at a glance

Founded in 2015, Aptive Environmental is gaining popularity for its eco-friendly services. It is one of our best pest control companies.

Fast facts

  • Aptive Environmental, a relatively new player in pest control, services homeowners in 31 states.
  • Aptive is known for its community contributions. It has earned accolades as one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2021 Best Companies in America and won a Gold Award in the 2021 Best in Biz Award.

What we like

Aptive offers eco-friendly services and re-treatments between appointments. The provider has generous online discounts for new customers. A current promotion allows new and returning customers to save $100 when they contact Aptive via phone or through their website quote form.

What we don’t like

Aptive has only a decade of pest control experience, making it a toddler compared to many other competitors, such as Ehrlich Pest Control, Orkin and Terminix. Previous customers have filed complaints about Aptive’s aggressive sales tactics. Aptive’s limited availability across states may pose challenges for potential customers seeking their services.

Aptive Pest Control pros and cons

Aptive Pest Control serves 31 states, so residents in some areas won’t have it as a pest control option. The company uses products approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), furthers its commitment to the environment as a member of EPA’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program.

If you have bedbugs or termites, you’ll need to look elsewhere because Aptive doesn’t treat these pests. However, it will re-perform treatments between appointments if needed.

Pros

  • Environmentally friendly treatments
  • Member of the EPA’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program
  • Re-treatment between appointments available

Cons

  • Customers note aggressive sales tactics
  • Doesn’t treat pests like bedbugs or termites
  • Limited availability

How much does Aptive Pest Control cost

The annual price for Aptive Pest Control’s treatments typically ranges from $596 to $1,490, based on the estimated number of treatments per plan. The per-treatment cost is the same for each of the three plans, and your total annual cost will depend on the number of treatments you get each year.

We called to get a general quote for a 2,000-square-foot house in Virginia as a customer dealing with ants and mosquitoes. The Aptive representative informed us that the initial inspection and the first treatment cost $399, and after that, each treatment costs $149. The initial inspection includes treating the entire yard, the foundation of the home and the interior of the home.

What plans and services does Aptive Pest Control offer?

The Aptive website points to three plans under Pest Control Service when you pick your pest plan — the Basic, Pro and Premium plans.

All plans include the first treatment and standard treatments throughout the year. The differences in the plans are primarily based on treatment frequency, with a shorter treatment window during warmer weather:

  • Basic plan: Treatments are scheduled every 50 to 80 days throughout the year. The plan also covers aphids, outdoor rodents, pantry pests, slugs and snails.
  • Pro plan: From April to October, treatments occur every 30 to 60 days, while from November to March, they are scheduled every 50 to 80 days. Besides covering aphids, outdoor rodents, pantry pests, slugs and snails, the Pro plan lists mosquito control as an add-on, but the representative we spoke with said it’s included in the pricing.
  • Premium plan: From April to October, treatments are scheduled every 20 to 40 days, and from November to March, every 50 to 80 days. This plan also covers aphids, mosquitos, outdoor rodents, pantry pests, slugs and snails.

Savings and discounts

The Pro plan offers an online exclusive deal for an initial treatment of $69 and a standard treatment priced at $155. Similarly, the Premium plan features an online-only offer for a first treatment at $69 and a standard treatment at $185. However, all plans are eligible for discounts. To qualify for any offers, you must be a new customer and sign a one-year contract.

The representative we talked to said they were running a summer promotion for $300 off the initial inspection and first treatment, bringing the first payment down to $99. This discount is based on the $399 standard initial treatment price, but it requires a 12-month service agreement with at least four standard treatments. However, cancellation during this period requires repayment of the discount received, up to $199.

Most promotions lowered the initial inspection and first treatment price to around $250 on average. The rep said the summer promotion for $300 off we received was the best offer he had seen from Aptive.

Aptive Pest Control customer experience

Aptive Environmental’s website is straightforward yet frustrating to navigate because it provides limited information. While you can find essential details like obtaining a quote and learning about treated pests, there’s no chat feature; you can reach the company by phone or contact form.

The team responded within minutes by phone. Previous customers and news outlets have reported aggressive sales tactics, and there are mixed opinions about the quality of its service. However, our phone call as a secret shopper with the sales representative was friendly, and we weren’t pressured to schedule services. They listened to our pest problems and indicated that the Pro plan would best fit our unique situation. If there were any problems between treatments, they would retreat for free.

Aptive offers a customer portal for customers to make payments and reschedule appointments as needed. However, it’s only mentioned briefly on the website.

Here are some reviews that can provide insight into the type of service you can expect from Aptive:

The fine print: Terms and conditions you should know

If you’re a new customer and want to avoid committing to a contract, be careful about accepting online discounts from Aptive. Getting that discount requires you to agree to an annual contract.

Aptive requires customers to sign a contract for their services, and canceling involves a $199 fee if you sign a service contract and cancel during the contract. However, they offer a comprehensive guarantee to ensure customer satisfaction.

If you’re within the three-day cancellation window and Aptive hasn’t started the service, you can cancel without a fee and get a refund. But if they’ve already started treatment, you might have to pay a fee according to previous customers, which is either $199 or the difference between the standard price and what you paid.

Aptive Pest Control vs. competitors

Our team chose Aptive as the best choice for eco-friendly solutions. In addition to using EPA-approved products, Aptive is also enrolled in the EPA’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program, which involves communities in raising awareness and minimizing pesticide risks.

Bulwark Exterminating and Arrow Exterminators are other environmentally friendly providers we like to acknowledge. Bulwark uses both natural and hybrid products; the latter pest control products utilize active molecules derived from herbal sources like chrysanthemum flowers, chemically enhanced for increased potency and longer-lasting effectiveness compared to typical natural pesticides. Natural products can sometimes cost more due to the labor-intensive process involved in harvesting and processing.

While Aptive was chosen as the most environmentally friendly company for its solutions, customers may be more interested in a company like Bulwark, which is not known for aggressive sales tactics.
