A mop is an essential home cleaning tool, but when it comes to choosing the right one for your needs, the options can be overwhelming. There are traditional mops, including sponge, string and spin mops, as well as high-tech robot mops —?and all of them have their own benefits.

Delah Gomasi, the managing director and CEO at MaidForYou, says, “We use spin mops in the field, typically because they’re more efficient at cleaning larger homes than your standard manual mop.”

We surveyed experts, from house cleaners to school janitors, to find out which spin mops they swear by and rounded up a few of our own favorites.

Best mop and bucket systems

"I’m fond of the Libman Tornado," says Jimmy Cash, a school janitor in Worcester, Massachusetts. "It’s named after a natural disaster, which is apropos because once I pump that high-speed wringer, I turn into a cyclone and clean everything in my path."

This one looks —?and works — quite similar to the O-Cedar model that everyone loves. "The Vileda Spin Mop is our second choice for spin mop recommendations," Gomasi says. "Like the O-Cedar mop, it is super easy to use, it doesn't leave a streaky film and picks up fine dust particles and dirt ... from both tiled and hardwood floors with ease."

Best Tested

It's our pick for the best mop, so it's no surprise that most of the experts we spoke to said O-Cedar's spin mops are their go-tos. "The O-Cedar spin mop is the best in class," Gomasi says. "It's super simple to use, we find that it picks up more dirt than your ordinary mop. It's sturdy but not heavy and makes mopping floors a breeze. It's great on both tile and hardwood floors." Plus, the O-Cedar spin mop has an adjustable handle that extends up to 50 inches, allowing you to clean walls and other hard-to-reach areas with ease too.

I have three spin mops in my home: an O-Cedar that's reserved for outdoor cleaning, an electric spin mop (more on that below) and Casabella's dual-bucket spin mop. I ditched the bulky O-Cedar bucket that experts recommend in favor of this stackable, two-bucket system. It saves space so I have more room to store my unreasonably sized mop collection.

Need a heavy-duty spin mop? "While the O-Cedar mop system is probably the most recommended, I'd like to present an option ideal for heavy use: The CycloMop Commercial Spinning Spin Mop,” says Taylor Riley, a co-founder at Impact Cleaning Professionals. “This product takes my top pick because of its durability. The CycloMop’s stainless steel mop handle is both durable and capable of reaching those hard-to-access surfaces. It will rotate flat to the floor, allowing you to clean under furniture."

Best spin mops for hardwood

Shari Cedar, CEO and co-owner of AK Building Services, a commercial cleaning company, likes another O-Cedar spin mop. "For hardwood and marble," she says, "I recommend [its] MicroTwist Max Microfiber Mop." Like other O-Cedar mops, this mop head is removable and machine-washable for easy cleanup, but it does not come with its own bucket.

Best spin mop for tile

For tile, Cedar recommends this blue microfiber string mop. "O-Cedar mops are light and easy on the user," she says. "They do not leave surface streaks, and they do not develop a foul odor after they dry, like many other mops do."

Best electric spin mops

We're big fans of Bissell's well-designed and smartly engineered products, like the Little Green Machine carpet and upholstery cleaner and the SteamShot portable steam cleaner. The brand's electric spin mop, the SpinWave, gets rave reviews for its cordless design, swivel steering, easy-carry handle and on-demand spray that allows users to dispense cleaning solution with the push of a button.

Would you like to know what mop Underscored's cleaning expert actually uses? Well, this is it: The Kojeo electric mop is my go-to tool for regular mopping. It glides across floors, cleaning beautifully in both dry and damp mopping modes. It is also slim and lightweight, making it easy to take in and out of storage when my floors need a going-over.

Best easy-to-clean spin mop

This "As Seen on TV" mop gets high marks for ease of cleaning, thanks to its portability (it weighs less than 2 pounds!). If you're a person who regularly uses mops or who just hates the messy job of cleaning a mop after use, the Hurricane mop is for you.
