What we like
Liberty Home Guard (LHG) has a quality workmanship warranty that lasts 60 days, which is double the industry average. Having a two-month warranty means you’re more likely to get a permanent resolution to any issue that crops up. Liberty also has an excellent Better Business Bureau (BBB) customer rating (4.45 out of 5), and customers can contact the company in several ways: online chat, email, phone and 24/7 customer service availability. Customers are likely to be pleased with Liberty Home Guard’s service when a problem arises.
What we don’t like
Liberty Home Guard scores low in our rankings because of its company history. It has only seven years of experience. Our team prefers companies that have at least a decade of experience and a proven track record. It’s also disconcerting that Liberty Home Guard doesn’t have a narrative about the company’s history on its website. Consumers like to know more about companies they want to partner with to protect their homes. Liberty also loses points because of pricing. The most affordable plan costs $50 per month, and add-ons push the price significantly higher.
*BBB scores are accurate as of September 2024
Liberty Home Guard pros and cons
Liberty Home Guard is more expensive than most other top home warranty providers. Its above-average monthly costs range from $60 to $70 after fees and surcharges. These prices are more than most providers, like Select Home Warranty, which costs between $44 and $47 per month.
Liberty’s service fees of $125 to $200 are also well above the industry standard of $96. However, based on many customer reviews, Liberty seems more likely to stick to its promises and provide coverage.
Liberty Home Guard provides a likable workmanship guarantee that lasts 60 days, which makes it less likely that you’ll run into recurring problems or incur more service fees than if you selected a home warranty company that has a 30-day guarantee. Liberty also enjoys above-average customer ratings — 4.45 out of 5 from the BBB (competitors get between 1 and 2 stars) and 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot (compared to typical 1- and 2-star ratings). That indicates better customer service by Liberty.
Pros
- 60-day workmanship guarantee
- 42 add-on options
- Outstanding customer reviews and satisfaction scores
Cons
- $2,000 coverage limit per item is less than half what a few competitors offer
- Plan pricing is 15% to 25% higher than major competitors
- Service fees are well above the industry average

Savings and discounts
You can save money several ways when you buy a home warranty from Liberty Home Guard. For example:
- You can get between two and six months of coverage for free if you buy an annual or multi-year plan and pay the total up-front (two months free for a one-year plan, and an additional month free per additional year up to five years).
- You can get premiums for the Total Home Guard plan as low as $39.99 ($20 off per month) if you agree to pay higher service call fees, making it easier to keep ongoing costs low if you don’t plan on making many claims.
- You can save on more claims by taking advantage of LHG’s 60-day workmanship guarantee, which is double the industry average.
- If you’re covered by LHG, you can get discounts on certain appliance brands if you need replacements.
What services does Liberty Home Guard offer?
Liberty Home Guard sells three base plans: one for home appliances, one for home systems and one that combines appliance and system protection. There are also all those optional add-ons.
There is a 30-day waiting period before coverage kicks in, which is standard in the home warranty industry.
Liberty Home Guard doesn’t cover luxury or professional-grade appliances unless you buy add-on coverage. It only covers damage caused by normal wear and tear, so issues stemming from maintenance neglect or a covered peril like a tornado won’t be covered.

Liberty Home Guard customer experience
Liberty Home Guard is easy to contact. It has options for calling, texting, emailing or talking on an online chat. The company’s website is easy to use and navigate, and you can get quotes online for your property, regardless of how much customization you need.
I reached out to Liberty via call, text and online chat to gauge representatives’ professionalism and response times. I got connected with a live representative after just two rings when I called, and a helpful chat bot was available immediately when I texted and used the online chat service. When I called and spoke to a live representative, they were friendly, professional and willing to help.
Liberty Home Guard reviews are overwhelmingly positive across the BBB and Trustpilot, which should show that you’ll receive top-notch customer service and a high pay-out rate if you go with this provider. However, there’s a note on the BBB website stating that the number of complaints since 2023 has increased, specifically related to response times to claims and the overall approval rate.
Liberty Home Guard’s home warranty reviews below should provide the best- and worst-case scenarios when choosing this provider:
The fine print: Terms and conditions you should know
I recommend reading Liberty Home Guard’s sample contract in its entirety before considering this company because there are some terms that might make you think twice about signing a contract.
First, make sure you understand the exclusions I listed above. Those can leave you with an item you believe will be covered, but then isn’t if the issue is with an excluded component.
Second, note that the maximum coverage per covered item is $2,000. The exceptions are the plumbing system, electrical system and add-ons, which max out at $500 each. There are other minor exceptions to the coverage limits, like a maximum of $10 per pound of refrigerant and a catch-all coverage cap of the covered item’s book value per item.
Liberty Home Guard vs. competitors
Liberty Home Guard is more expensive than many competitors — both on a monthly basis and on service call fees. The company’s plans are standard — appliance-only, systems-only and combination plans — but add-on coverages let you customize more than most other providers, and they include things I rarely see, such as rekey services, pest control services, exterior maintenance and coverage of guest houses.
I recommend Liberty for customers who want coverage for items that other providers don’t cover and for those looking for better customization than they’d get from other top home warranty providers.
