Viking Pest Control at a glance

Viking Pest Control has provided comprehensive pest control services to residents of the Mid-Atlantic regions for more than 40 years, collecting stellar customer reviews and ratings.

Fast facts

  • Viking Pest Control was founded in 1980 in New Jersey and carved a reputation for unparalleled customer service and a high satisfaction rate.
  • In 2017, Anticimex, one of the world’s top-four largest pest control companies, acquired Viking and has continued its success.

What we like

Viking Pest Control is one of only two of our best pest control companies that we’ve given a perfect Trust Score, which takes into account years of experience, Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings and reviews on Google Reviews and Trustpilot. The company has an A rating with the BBB and a near-perfect customer rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars.

What we don’t like

Viking might not be the best option for budget-conscious homeowners. Viking’s general pest control service costs around $900 per year, whereas a similar service from a company like Aptive Pest Control would cost between $600 and $800.

* BBB ratings are accurate as of June 2024.

Viking Pest Control pros and cons

Viking treats any pests you might have issues with, including pesky termites and bedbugs, which some companies avoid. It also offers cutting-edge technology and pest solutions, including Anticimex’s SMART technology for more effective mouse treatment. Viking also has a satisfaction guarantee on all service contracts, including unlimited retreatments if you discover signs that pests returned after treatment.

The company works primarily based on annual and seasonal contracts, although it has a few one-off treatments with 60-day guarantees, which it calls a 60-Day Shield. Viking’s plans aren’t customizable and are expensive compared to some of its competitors.

Pros

  • Highest chance of any provider that you’ll be satisfied with treatment, based on our data
  • Uses a variety of treatment methods to ensure your problem is solved for good
  • Treats virtually any pest you might have

Cons

  • Most pests require a service for ongoing treatment
  • Prices are higher than some competitors

How much does Viking Pest Control cost?

Viking offers 60-day treatment plans, seasonal contracts and yearly pest plans. It also customizes plans for termites and bedbugs, which don’t have standard rates.

The yearly pest plans range from $549 to $1,531:

  • Convenience Plan ($794): Covers 61 common insects and rodents
  • SMART Home Protection Plan ($976): Covers 75 common insects and rodents
  • SMART Home Protection Mosquito and Tick Bundle ($1,531): Covers 75 common insects and rodents, as well as mosquito and tick treatments
  • Carpenter Ants Full Year Plan ($549): Covers carpenter ants only
  • Carpenter Bees Full Year Plan ($549): Covers carpenter bees only

Viking has two additional yearly plans, the SMART Home Protection+ Plan and the SMART Premier Plan. The first includes everything in the SMART Home Protection Plan, plus fleas, springtails and termites. The second has everything in the SMART Home Protection+ plan, plus bedbugs, ticks, mosquitoes, powderpost beetles, bostrichid beetles, clothing moths, deathwatch beetles, furniture beetles and old house borers. Because you can customize prices for these plans, you’ll need an in-person inspection to get a quote.

There are three seasonal plans to choose from, ranging from $680 to $919:

  • Spotted Lanternfly Treatment Plan ($919): Includes five treatments for up to 10 trees ($14 per additional tree, per treatment)
  • Last Bite Mosquito and Tick Service ($680): Includes eight total treatments
  • Overwintering Pest Protection Plan ($698): Includes two treatments for stink bugs, ladybugs and box elders

Viking also has 12 various single-treatment options, each of which has a 60-day guarantee. These treatments cost $399 for individual pests, such as carpenter ants, ants, carpenter bees, cave crickets, ground bees, mice and springtails. The one-off services for other pests vary a bit:

  • Viking Shield ($549): Covers 20 common insects (not wood-destroying insects)
  • Flea Control ($439): Covers fleas only
  • Rat Control ($849): Covers rats only
  • Roach Control ($459): Covers roaches only
  • Wasp Control ($349): Covers wasps only

* Note: All of the Viking Pest Control costs were pulled for a property in Monroe Township in New Jersey in June 2024.

Savings and discounts

Viking Pest Control provides online discounts if you order services through its website. Discounts range from $50 to $150 for more expensive services like rat control and prevention. Keep in mind that discounts may be seasonal, so watch for new promotions in your area.

Viking also offers a “switch and save” deal that offers a $50 discount on a yearly SMART plan if you switch from a different service provider.

What plans and services does Viking Pest Control offer?

Viking Pest Control offers plans for most pests, including common insects, rodents, wildlife and even specialty pests like bedbugs and termites.

All treatment plans are categorized as annual, seasonal or one-off treatments, the last of which includes a 60-day satisfaction guarantee. The company also offers termite and bedbug treatment, but the treatment plan and price are fully customized based on your property and the severity of the infestation.

Unfortunately, most plans aren’t customizable, so if you want service for pests included in different plans, you’ll have to purchase both.

Viking Pest Control add-ons and optional features

Viking’s plans include removal and control services for mice and rats, but you can also order service for other wildlife as an add-on product to any contract or as a standalone option. The company advertises the following removal services on its website:

  • Bedbugs (also included in the SMART Premier Plan)
  • Birds
  • Groundhogs
  • Opossums
  • Raccoons
  • Skunks
  • Squirrels
  • Termites
  • Voles

Viking doesn’t include prices to treat these pests because it provides treatment on a case-by-case basis, and costs vary. Also, you can’t get an online quote for these pests. Instead, you’ll have to call Viking at 800-618-2847 to schedule an inspection and get an estimate.

What pests does Viking Pest Control not treat?

Viking Pest Control provides a wealth of services covering virtually all common pests in its service area. However, it doesn’t remove snakes or other reptiles.

Viking Pest Control customer experience

Viking Pest Control is easy to contact. It offers phone service, an online chat, and quotes via email. When you sign up, you also get access to a customer portal, which gives you easy access to technicians for advice, scheduling and more.

Rather than having to call, wait for an inspection and wait for treatment, you can order many of Viking’s packages and plans online. This makes Viking a fast, easy and customer-friendly pest control company.

We called Viking to see how quickly we’d get connected with a representative. After a short automated menu, we were directed to the local branch. The phone rang for about a minute and a half before someone answered, but from there, everything went smoothly. The rep was friendly and courteous.

Best of all, Viking gets perfect marks in our ranking categories for customer trustworthiness. Its BBB rating is one of the highest in the industry, and it has a 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot and nearly 5 out of 5 stars on Google Reviews, something we don’t often see in companies we review (actual score varies by location).

Overall, Viking Pest Control reviews are some of the most positive in the pest control industry. The reviews below should showcase what you can expect in a best-case and worst-case scenario:

The fine print: Terms and conditions you should know

Viking Pest Control doesn’t appear to have hidden fees or stipulations for its service. Its payment terms and satisfaction guarantee terms are clear.

You should know that your annual or seasonal plan will automatically renew unless you cancel it within 30 days of the end of your first term. This is clearly stated on the company’s website, and we didn’t see any complaints from customers who got charged unexpectedly, but it is something to be aware of so that you only end up paying what you intend to.

Viking Pest Control vs. competitors

Viking Pest Control dominates the local pest control industry in terms of customer service and satisfaction in its service area. It enjoys uncommonly positive reviews and an unusually high rate of satisfaction for the pest industry. For comparison, Viking’s customer rating on BBB is 4.8 out of 5, while Terminix sits at 1.1 and Orkin at 2.9.

Viking also covers most pests in your home, including 91 insects and common rodents, plus treatment options for seven other types of wildlife. Some large companies, like JC Ehrlich and Orkin, provide the same breadth of coverage, but Viking offers more comprehensive pest management than companies like Aptive, which doesn’t treat bedbugs, termites, or wildlife.

Overall, we think Viking Pest Control works well for homeowners who are willing to pay more for service, provided they get excellent customer service and are happy with the results. If you live within Viking Pest Control’s coverage area, it is well worth it.

Methodology

During our Viking termite & pest control review, we evaluated 20 of the top pest control companies in the country across six primary criteria during our pest control review process.

We emphasize the number and types of pests treated, as this indicates a company’s ability to treat your specific issue. Viking Pest Control showed comprehensive coverage and received perfect scores here. We also evaluated guarantees and customer support, and Viking is also near perfect in those respects.

It lost the most points for convenience because it doesn’t offer free inspections or online quotes for some standalone treatments, such as bedbugs, termites and wildlife removal.
