Ziply Fiber at a glance

Ziply Fiber may have limited availability, but it may be the cheapest internet service available if you’re in its service area.

Fast facts

  • Ziply Fiber was founded in 2020 by Steve Weed and Harold Zeitz, who bought the Northwest portion of Frontier Communications.
  • Ziply offers low-cost plans with no data caps and no contracts, but plan costs increase after the initial plan period expires.
  • The company only services a limited area in four states in the Northwest.
  • Ziply offers a 30-day money-back guarantee to customers unhappy with their internet service.

What we like

Ziply offers fiber and DSL internet options at a low cost, with no data caps or contracts. It provides symmetrical upload and download speeds, and customers typically give Ziply good reviews and quality service ratings. When you sign up for internet service, the company offers a 30-day money-back guarantee if you’re dissatisfied.

What we don’t like

Ziply has limited availability, servicing only some areas in the Northwest states of Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Once customers establish service, they pay an equipment rental fee. Some plan costs increase after 12 months of service.

Ziply Fiber pros and cons

Fiber internet is the fastest internet available, and Ziply Fiber nails it with affordable plans to serve most household needs. Its upload and download fiber speeds match, making it a good choice for remote work, gaming and file transfers.

The plans are better because the company applies no data caps and does not have contracts. However, Ziply does charge an equipment rental fee for the modem and router. Also, some plans increase by $20 per month after you reach one year of service.

Pros

  • Low-cost plans
  • No data caps
  • Symmetrical upload and download speeds

Cons

  • Limited availability (4 states)
  • Some plans increase after 12 months
  • Equipment fees

How much does Ziply Fiber cost?

Ziply sells one DSL plan and seven fiber internet plans. Its Fiber 100, Fiber 300 and Fiber Gig plans are value-packed at low prices. However, for $50, the DSL plan pales in comparison. It offers 115 Mbps download speed but does not have matching upload speeds, yet it costs more than the cheapest fiber plan.

Although Ziply touts itself as America’s fastest internet service provider, its 10 and 50 Gig plans are expensive. Ziply’s installation cost is typically $90. DSL plans and plans of 5 Gbps and higher will pay an installation fee.

A fiber router rental costs $12 per month. Although you can buy a router, Ziply will give you free rental on up to three Wi-Fi extenders.

I spoke with a Ziply sales representative to determine which plans are available in the Kirkland, Washington, area. The representative was kind, upbeat and knowledgeable about the plans.

They shared two fiber plans and pricing and discussed which plan they use for working remotely. They disclosed pricing for optional add-ons and provided excellent customer service.

Customer feedback

Ziply internet reviews show solid ratings for customer service and fast internet speeds. However, when customers do complain, it’s often because technicians are scheduled for service but may not show up or follow up.

Other times, an internet outage occurred, but Ziply didn’t communicate an expected resolution. Here’s what two customers had to say:

How does Ziply Fiber compare with competitors?

When comparing fiber internet providers, Ziply is a strong contender. It offers some of the most desirable features, like matching upload and download speeds, no data caps and no contracts. Its pricing is just as competitive.

However, Ziply is unavailable to the vast majority of consumers, as it covers just four states. For this reason, companies like Cox Communications and Comcast Xfinity will likely be better selections than Ziply Fiber. They offer similar internet plans and cover a larger geographic area.
