It’s easy to snap photos of your surroundings while traveling, but getting pictures of yourself and your travel companions can be tougher than expected.

If you’re solo, you may hesitate to ask strangers for a solo shot. On the flip side, if you’re traveling with a companion, you may end up with so many solo shots that it feels like you went alone when looking back.

I usually use this all-in-one tripod from Amazon when I travel. It’s not very compact, but it does fit in a medium-sized purse or a small backpack. I like that it is adjustable and comes with a remote, but on days when I want to travel lighter and still get good shots, it can be a bit of an inconvenience.

That’s why I was curious to see how the Geometrical Pocket Tripod held up and if it could be a good alternative for those days when I don’t want to carry a purse or backpack. After all, it literally fits in your wallet like a credit card.

I recently put it to the test to see just how well it works in the wild, and here’s what I thought.

This portable smartphone tripod helps you take better photos when you travel. It will hold your phone steady for selfies, group photos and more. Plus, it’s small enough to fit in the credit card slot of most wallets.

What we liked about it

It’s compact

A tripod that fits in a wallet is pretty impressive, especially when you consider how bulky tripods can be. The Geometrical Pocket Tripod is like adding a new credit card to your wallet, except you can use it to take better photos or as a phone stand for watching a show on the go — it’s that simple.

It’s adjustable

The Geometrical Pocket Tripod can be used on all types of devices and comes with a resizing kit, so size doesn’t really matter. You can also adjust the tilt of your phone to get the ideal angle.

You can pull the tripod apart and split it into two “stands” too, which could be useful if you have a larger device, like an iPad.

What we didn’t like about it

Limited height range

Of course, there’s only so much you can do with something that is the size of a credit card. For photos, the perspective you get largely depends on what’s around you that you can set up the Geometrical Pocket Tripod on. That said, you generally need a flat surface as the this tripod is not flexible.

There’s no remote control

The beauty of a lot of the travel tripods out there is that they come with remotes that can be synced to your phone so you can snap pictures from afar.

The Geometrical Pocket Tripod is still very manual in that sense. You can set up a self-timer or take a video, but you can’t necessarily take a burst of photos unless you have an Apple Watch, in which case you can use it as a camera remote.

Alternatively, wireless camera remotes are affordable and portable, so consider buying one if you’re using the Geometrical Pocket Tripod on a future trip.
