Those of us who reside in smaller homes understand that finding enough space on kitchen counters or desktops can be tough going. For me, that struggle is double. When I’m not micromanaging my home office desk — which happens to be overflowing with gadgets, notebooks, beverages and various other stuff — I’m willing another square foot of space to appear in my kitchen.

Enter the Magipea Tablet Holder. This flexible arm mounts firmly onto the side of a desk or counter, and its relatively long steel arm and grip hold a tablet firmly in place. This way, for instance, you can let a recipe or video tutorial float in the air above your mise en place, instead of constantly looking at that recipe on your phone — and getting it messy with your cooking.

Thankfully, it’s also available for a mere $23 right now.

With a 30-inch arm and grip that holds devices between five and 12 inches long, the Magipea is a sturdy solution for finding space for a tablet.

How I found the Magipea Tablet Holder

I love a tidy desk, yet clutter tends to build up because I don’t want to sacrifice any of the things I (think I) need. Same in the kitchen, where I’d rather keep as much stuff at arm’s reach than in a cabinet. Unfortunately, since I’m a city dweller in a small apartment, this means that finding space for a tablet on any of my desks or countertops is not easy.

When I unpacked the Magipea Tablet Holder, I was relieved to find that it offered a simple fix to my space-saving woes. Add to that a simple assembly — find a base to mount it on, adjust a plastic shaft that holds the grip in place, then tighten once you fit the mount firmly — and I was hooked.

Once it’s installed, you do a little pulling, pushing and wrenching of the Magipea’s gooseneck arm (the company claims is made of solid steel) to the right position, place your tablet or larger phone into the adjusting grip and attach that by unscrewing the plastic nut, snapping in the ball tip and screwing the nut back on.

Is it solid? I found that tapping or scrolling my Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus causes it to jiggle a bit, but it stays in place. I did find that I’m more likely to use it at my desk because it looks a little crude for the kitchen. Order the white version if that matters to you.

Why the Magipea Tablet Holder is a score

The Magipea Tablet Holder is the kind of product I’d normally ignore. Sure, it serves a function, but its name is a jumble of search terms —“Tablet Stand Holder, Mount Holder Clip with Grip Flexible Long Arm Gooseneck Compatible with iPad iPhone/Nintendo Switch/Samsung Galaxy Tabs/Amazon Kindle Fire HD - Black”— and it’s from a no-name company I have zero pre-existing faith in.

But having used it? I think it’s a solid option for fitting a tablet into your cramped spaces. If you’d rather splurge on a fancier version, check out Twelve South’s HoverBar Duo. But since that costs over twice as much, I have to say that the Magipea Tablet Holder is a solid, under-$25 value pick.
