Skims Fits Everybody bra collection review

Skims’ Fits Everybody line includes loungewear, underwear, bralettes and bras, all with a focus on comfort. Think basic pieces that you’ll want to wear every day. Each of the styles is made from a smooth, soft material that provides plenty of stretch for a figure-accentuating fit. While this all sounds great for a bodysuit or pair of undies, it gets more complicated when it comes to bras, which have underwires, elastic straps and other elements to factor in. That’s why three editors of different chest sizes and body types decided to try out three of the bestselling Skims bras.

Editorial director Chelsea Stone, reviews editor Tobey Grumet Segal and yours truly each tested the Skims Fits Everybody T-Shirt Bra, Push-Up Bra and Strapless Bra over three months to see how they measured up.

What we liked about them

The Fits Everybody line’s straightforward bras aren’t particularly special, but that’s the appeal. The T-Shirt Bra is exactly what you want from a wardrobe basic: no-frills, great fit and goes with virtually everything. And for special necklines where a strapless bra is necessary, we would also recommend the Fits Everybody Strapless cut.

The Fits Everybody T-Shirt Bra was our favorite across the board. It gives ample coverage and support, and comes in 10 classic colors, including a range of skin tones. We agreed that the quality felt well worth the price, especially considering lingerie brands like Victoria's Secret, Wacoal and ThirdLove fall into a similar price point (if not a bit higher).

"The fabric is soft, and this might be a weird way to describe a bra, but it's actually one of the sturdiest bras I've come across," says Stone. "Just a good, basic, no fuss T-shirt bra that's well-priced and will hold up." Grumet Segal also thinks it's a solid choice to wear under T-shirts or tighter-fitting tops since it has a seamless look. The cups are lightly lined and it has an underwire, but we didn't experience any uncomfy digging. I found that the Clay color worked perfectly for my skin tone and it stayed invisible even under a white T-shirt.

Stone and myself found it to be true to size, but Grumet Segal sized up in the band for a more comfortable fit. It also has adjustable straps that had a good amount of tension to keep things lifted without digging in.

After a few months of wear, the bra has stayed pretty much the same — it hasn't stretched out and it's held up in the laundry.

Grumet Segal thinks it's "worth the price for anyone who wants a solid bra to wear under T-shirts or tighter-fitting tops."

Finding a strapless bra that provides support and stays put is challenging, which is why I was pretty impressed with this style. It has a thick, structured band that has a tight fit and gives a bit more coverage in the front. Skims' website says it's true to size, but we agree that comes with the caveat that it'll feel noticeably stiff. The sturdy and tight band also has a thin band of silicone along the neckline and wings to help keep it in place. By the time we took off the bra at the end of the day, it was digging in a bit and left us with some red indentations. The payoff, however, is that it stayed in place all day without need for constant readjustment.

"I have yet to ever find a comfortable strapless bra, and it was no more uncomfortable than any other strapless bra," Stone shares. She says that it's a good option for special events where you only need to wear it for a couple of hours at a time. "It's definitely snug (which makes sense for a strapless bra) and I liked that it came with optional straps for some added versatility," Stone adds. The removable straps allow you to style it with one-shoulder tops and dresses too.

I find that strapless bras and tops always cause some bulging near my armpits, which is why I tend to avoid them. Despite the borderline-restrictive fit of this bra, it still looked smooth and seamless under my strapless clothes, which gave me a bit of a confidence boost. I tested both the Onyx and Clay colors and thought they were both versatile choices.

As with the other Skims bras we tested, it's machine-washable and held up well after doing the laundry, keeping its structure and tight fit.

What we didn’t like about them

Out of the styles we tested, there was one that didn’t work out for all three of us. Challenges with fit are par for the course when bra shopping — from variations in band thickness and cup coverage, not to mention each person’s own proportions — so we don’t see our issues with the Skims Fits Everybody Push-Up Bra as design flaws. Rather, it just wasn’t a good match for us.

“The push-up bra did its job and definitely pushed things up,” Grumet Segal says. However, we both found that the push-up effect added a bit too much volume — as Grumet Segal notes, “my boobs were constantly overflowing from the cups and unless I was wearing a very specific outfit with a low-cut neckline, it looked lumpy under clothes.” I also thought it gave a bit of “double boob” spillage, creating a bulge out of the top of the bra that made it tricky to wear under a shirt.

Stone doesn’t typically wear push-up bras. “Because I have a larger cup size, I’m typically looking to minimize, not accentuate, my cleavage,” she explains. With this in mind, she didn’t end up wearing it out, but she did think that it was “somewhat comfortable” although she noticed some gaping in the cups. It’s worth noting that this style doesn’t come in as big of a size range as the T-Shirt Bra, likely because those with larger chest sizes aren’t looking for the added cup volume.

Despite our issues with the bra, the Fits Everybody Push-Up Bra is one of Skims’ bestsellers, and I think it’s worth trying a few sizes to find the proper fit. If I had tried a size with more room in the cup, it would’ve been perfect.

Bottom line

Considering each of the bras we tested, it’s clear that Skims aims to offer bras that really are a fit for everybody — even if they’re not always flawless (how could they be?). The Fits Everybody line includes more than a dozen styles of bras, and we were most impressed with the T-Shirt Bra. It offers a reliable introduction to the line and it’s now a foundational piece in our wardrobes. The style had an accurate and comfortable fit across our different sizes. It’s the top pick that’s worth buying, since it can truly be worn every day and will keep its shape after months of washing and wearing.
