Ruin and death dot the map across Israel and Gaza after Hamas' unprecedented attack
Rockets and gunfire have erupted across Israel and Gaza since Hamas launched unprecedented deadly attacks early Saturday.
More than 1,200 people in Israel have been killed, according to the Israel Defense Forces' Army Radio, and Hamas has claimed it is holding more than 100 hostages, including Americans, in Gaza. Since the start of the conflict, at least 1,000 people have died in Gaza, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Be'eri
Only three miles from the Gaza border, the Israeli kibbutz Be’eri is one of the early sites Hamas targeted early Saturday morning. More than 100 bodies have been found. Civilian hostages in Hamas custody have been killed there, CNN has verified through videos.
Kfar Aza
Hamas militants rampaged through this Israeli kibbutz and other nearby rural communities, burning down homes and "brutally butchering" women, children, toddlers and the elderly, the IDF told CNN.
Sderot
Hamas on Sunday said that 100 rockets had been fired at the southern Israeli city. Four people were wounded in those rocket attacks in and around the city, Israeli emergency services said the same day. CNN teams on the ground here heard fighter jets, drone activity and a helicopter flying above them, as well as explosions, on Monday.
Tel Aviv
The site of direct rocket hits, Tel Aviv was not spared by Hamas attacks over the weekend. On Monday, a CNN reporter on the ground there could hear loud booms almost constantly. While airlines canceled flights to and from the airport since the start of the conflict, the US State Department has "been in conversation with various (airline) carriers to encourage them to consider resuming travel in and out of Israel," spokesperson Matthew Miller said Tuesday.
Negev desert, near Kibbutz Re'im
At least 260 people who were attending the Nova music festival near the Gaza border have been killed, according to Israeli officials. Hamas has taken some of the attendees hostage.
Ashkelon
Hamas said it fired hundreds of rockets toward the southern Israeli cities of Ashkelon and Ashdod in response to Israeli airstrikes Tuesday. A Hamas spokesperson on Tuesday issued a warning to the residents to leave the city before 5 p.m. local time.
Ashdod
On Monday, rockets were seen being intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome air defense system by the CNN team. On Tuesday, a CNN reporter there described the streets as deserted as explosions were heard throughout the area.
Al-Furqan area
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said dozens of its fighter jets struck several "targets" in this Gaza City neighborhood on Monday. Al-Furqan "serves as a hub for the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip, from which many operations against Israel were launched, including over the last two days," the IDF claimed in a statement.
Rimal and Khan Younis
More than 200 targets in these densely-populated Gaza neighborhoods were struck by Israeli fighter jets, according to an IDF statement Tuesday.
Rafah crossing
Eyad al-Bozom, the spokesperson for the Palestinian Interior Ministry, said that the only border crossing between the Gaza strip and Egypt was struck on Tuesday, meaning people there could not flee. The IDF did not say that the border crossing was hit, but that an underground tunnel for smuggling weapons and equipment was struck in the area.
Al Shati and Jabalia refugee camps
Israeli airstrikes targeted the refugee camps here on Monday, the Palestinian health ministry said, describing the assault as a “massacre against the entire neighborhood.” The IDF says it has been only targeting Hamas personnel and infrastructure.
Beit Hanoun
Live video feeds Sunday showed multiple explosions and large plumes of smoke rising from northern and eastern parts of Gaza, including in this area.
