Sugam Pokharel is a Senior News Editor at CNN International. Based in London, he serves as editorial gatekeeper for the network and frontline manages the news desk– including story, asset and resources– overseeing newsgathering in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Before moving to London, Pokharel was a producer on CNN’s International Desk in Atlanta, where he wrote and produced news content used on the network’s broadcast and digital platforms. He collaborated with CNN’s bureaus and journalists around the globe covering current news and major world events.
Pokharel specializes in South Asia and spent more than five years from 2014 as a field producer at CNN’s New Delhi bureau. During his tenure in New Delhi, he was deployed to cover breaking news stories in Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Hong Kong and across India.
Pokharel, a Nepal native, began his CNN career in 2010 in New York, before moving to Atlanta and working for CNN’s award-winning Freedom Project series. He is a graduate of University of Evansville.
