North Koreaís leader Kim Jong Un said the current situation where South Korea has become an ìundoubted enemyî calls for ìan exponential increase of the country's nuclear arsenalî and highlights the ìnecessity of mass-producing tactical nuclear weapons,î state media KCNA reported Sunday.

Kim concluded a six-day long plenary session on Saturday, during which they reviewed the nation's productivity in 2022 and set plans for the coming year.

The report noted that the US has increased ìthe level of military pressure on the DPRK to the maximumî in 2022 by frequently deploying military assets to the Korean Peninsula.

The report said, ìworrying military moves by the US and other hostile forces precisely targetingî North Korea is making them redouble "efforts to overwhelmingly beef up the military muscle to thoroughly guarantee the sovereignty, security and fundamental interests of the Republic.î

Kim called for the development of a new "Intercontinental Ballistic Missile [ICBM] system,î that is capable of a rapid nuclear counterstrike to protect the countryís ìabsolute dignity, sovereignty and right to existence,î KCNA said.

Kim also said that North Korea will launch their first military satellite at the ìearliest date possibleî by pushing ahead with the preparation for a reconnaissance satellite and its [launch] vehicle, which are currently at the final stages of development.

In recent years, Kim Jong Un has been replacing his New Year's speech with a plenary session conclusion.
