Refaat Alareer, 44, a father of six and professor of comparative literature, spoke to CNN in October about the struggles and fears he and his family faced amid Israel's war against Hamas. Shortly after, he gave consent in written messages to "share the recording" in the event of his death. On December 7, he was killed by a strike in Gaza.
